The thing I loved most about Joaquin Phoenix’s BAFTAs speech is telling those who created the system of oppression, that’s it’s their responsibility to dismantle and not just cover it over by giving out handouts.

What we have been saying for the longest time is we don’t want a “free pass” because we’re black, we simply want fairness, which is something we just don’t seem to receive no matter how excellent we are in these fields.
