I'm angered by people who use the phrase "I haven't used a library since I was a kid" as selfish justification for their lack of support. Millions of people do! I haven't used maternity services for 24 years, doesn't mean I want them removed for others.

This is what the twitter was made for. Sage parsing and rhyme.

Before self service machines are installed in libraries we’re told its to allow more staff time for enquiry work. Once they’re installed we’re told it’s to enable lone working....even in buildings where other services are offered.

That's ridiculous. But it doesn't come as a surprise, considering that real libraries are underfunded & have to close while 'little free libraries' (aka 'open book cases' here) are apparently the new hype... *facepalm*

This is such a lovely and important idea - I think many kids are hungry for expression but wouldn’t necessarily see writing as a means to express. Hope these quotes get your youngsters writing 😃.

The report appears to say Red Hall users might be given tickets allowing them to borrow from the public library but surely they can do that already? What's really needed is the public library giving a proper service to those who have transport problems.

There now follow Ten about Poetry and there's not a LOT you can do about it. 1. No one reads poetry, so write any old shit. 2. Performance poetry is poems which have to be read by the poet to make the metre and stuff fit. Sort of.

IT'S TOUGH by It's tough that the word "enough" does not rhyme with the name "McGough" though it appears to on the page (thus inducing rage). Forgive me whilst I cough, and follow up with a wry smile, indicating I'm a poet of STYLE, before finally signing off.

I should also just add that this is the polite version of this tweet. Those who know me IRL wil know how the first version of this tweet contained language closer to something a Viking would have used if he stubbed his toe on a bookshelf full of crappy old tut.

So now a bookcase in someone's flat where you can pay 10p to borrow a book is, apparently, a library? We desperately need people to understand what the word "library" actually means, and what it should always stand for. This is completely ridiculous. Beyond a joke.

I'm glad it is useful. I feel duty bound to point out that a lot of the dismantling was done by the sector to itself. The sector actively rejected standards, the law was partly framed by librarians to be deliberately vague and its partly a personal choice to disengage from ethics

Really feeling like women are the canaries in the coal mines for violent, abusive men. And note that many men are abusive to women online - threatening us, stalking us, harassing us. We're told that "it's just the internet" and to "ignore the trolls."
