I miss the abundance of analog electronics like this. Most of my toys ended up getting taken apart and turned into franken-circuits. It was great. These days everything is a black box surface-mounted to a PCB. It's so much harder to experiment with things.

They actually still make them. The transformer used to be hard to find if you blew it out trying to make high voltage. It's much easier to find replacements now.
I actually just got this one (for nostalgic reasons) when I found that out. Never blew the transformer when I was a kid but I did eliminate some LEDs. Losing the transformer would be unfortunate too because they use that in almost all of the audio projects.
Absolutely. I forgot about them entirely and they found this one and had to have it for reasons of nostalgia. But it's been a lot of fun going over those old projects again.

Aww, man, that one looks awesome with the wooden case and old school components. Maybe somewhere still sells the spring connectors? I'm not even sure what to search for.
