It seems counterproductive to completely eliminate gifted education because of a lack of diversity. I live in an affluent area. There are several gifted classes per grade, overwhelmingly white. There are barely any Asian, black, or brown children in these classes. Wealthy parents often opt out of the school screening to get their kids privately tested.

The 31st is Gifted Education Day at our state Capitol. Washington advocates will be meeting with our legislators and making a big push for universal screening. More opportunities is the answer, not fewer.
