A lot of pushback on this. I’m stating how I hear those words given the context of the discussion and of history. You’d avoid “coloured women” cos you know it offends the black community, so please listen when a Jew says “dark forces” offends and avoid it so we can fix this mess.

Can’t reply to everyone. Just to say it’s about context: you can say “dark forces” in appropriate contexts. I’m just a Jew, standing in front of the Labour Party he’s loved, asking some members not to be defensive but to listen & adapt their language to help sort this problem.

Hi David. There are different ways of looking at this. It’s not necessarily anti Semitic. It can be alluding to Murdoch, corporates, security services. It’s intellectually lazy to definitively define it as an AS trope.
-
It’s not lazy when you take into account the context of what was being talked about and other remarks made by Chris Williamson. It is not lazy when you, as a Jew, hear something that reverberates with history. Like the mural, many might not see it, but many Jews will.

If he referred to a Jewish conspiracy it would be anti-Semitic. He didn't so it isn't. I'm sorry David but this is what psychologists call confirmation bias. And no pointing this out isn't anti-Semitic either.
-
My problem is this is the sort of language that’s been used to refer to a Jewish conspiracy for centuries. And he’s talking about things in the context of antisemitism. He needs to be aware of the tropes and be more careful.

I’m simply asking people to be careful about the language they use. Do you use the term “coloured” like Amber Rudd did? Do you think you should be allowed to and that to not be able to stifles free speech? (As the right might say).

Blimey All of us consider the Tories to be the embodiment of Dark Forces There's a revolving door between Tory comms offices and the BBC (the embodiment of British media) Let us know then how to refer to the villainy of the Tories and their network within the media elite
-
Refer to them as the Tories. Avoid using “dark forces” and the like when talking about antisemitism because to many Jews that sounds worryingly familiar. It’s like not saying “coloured” (cc Amber Rudd). Use appropriate language, make sure you’re clear, then all is fine.
