A Pulitzer & a Peabody!! What an unbelievable 2 days! This feels like undeniable proof that Indigenous stories matter & that we should support Indigenous people to tell them. We are so grateful to survivors who shared with us & hope this means more people will hear their voices.

Gray died with a fractured voice box, several broken bones, brain hemorrhaging & ruptured testicle … injuries so severe an autopsy couldn't determine exactly how he died. Police refused to co-operate with the watchdog's investigation for years

Quote Tweet
while the world learned we are a primitive bunch, deserving of the attenborough style narration for our transit system, they also learned that vancouver island has wonderful characters that will drive you to port hardy on a whim

Just a wee announcement for followers interested in health and health care. For the next few months, I'll be part of CBC's Health team, telling stories from across Canada. So please pitch me! And if I've ever turned down an idea because there's no B.C. angle, pitch me again!

Rick passed away in 2020. Glad to see his journalism lives on!

Sad news today. My @langaracollege #journalism instructor, Rick Ouston, of @VancouverSun & many other noted media outlets passed away. The word "tenacious" in our dictionary should have his name underneath. He always got the goods. #RIP @camillebains1 @jhainswo cid:f_kek9szr30

Here's my TV story on the village of Tahsis, the council meeting that descended into absolute chaos last night, and why these sorts of conflicts seem to be happening at an alarming pace so far this year

There goes the last official safeguard against the virus being allowed to spread: people who test positive for COVID-19 are no longer required to self isolate, quietly updated their guidance ⬇️ #COVID19BC
Quote Tweet
#NEW: BC has removed any requirement to self-isolate if you have covid. The change was mentioned just once, in passing and somewhat ambiguously, in an hourlong press conference. There was no press release or official announcement of the change. capitaldaily.ca/news/bc-quietl

A concerning thread worth reading from an epidemiologist about the spike in child illness lately

A word on the idiocy known as "immunity debt". How did such a nonsensical idea take hold? Simple. The obvious mental model for our immune system is a muscle: use it or lose it. Muscles atrophy when we don't use them. The same mental model works for our memories & skills. 1/19

Twitter’s (now former) human rights counsel speaks about her entire human rights unit being axed under new ownership
Quote Tweet
Yesterday was my last day at Twitter: the entire Human Rights team has been cut from the company. I am enormously proud of the work we did to implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights, to protect those at-risk in global conflicts & crises including Ethiopia,
