Former employees at Facebook and Instagram told me that new features are often released knowing they don't work for blind people who need screen readers and that the accessibility team is very small. Blind users say it's a big civil rights problem

Let’s not forget how everyone in Hebrew school befriended each other except me. Or how my Jewish family never learned how to communicate with me. Immersion was not an option. Ableism pushed me away from the Jewish community. I still haven’t fully recovered from that.

Also I was acutely aware of how deeply exposed and vulnerable and infantilized I felt, always sitting past the veil in the back of the shul so my mom could transliterate what the rabbi said, or explain why some people did something and not the rest, and whether I should too.

I felt no connection to God, watching hearing people flap their lips, casting furtive glances at their prayer books for that page number at the corner, mirroring them stand up and then back down. I was colossally, COLOSSALLY bored. It felt like such a waste of time.

I did have access to Hebrew because my mom was my Cued Speech transliterator, but no one else in the (orthodox) Jewish community where I grew up cared to make services more inclusive. [thread?]

If you follow me, you know that I get sad when people tweet ASCII/emoji memes, which are inaccessible. I might even have recorded your meme with voiceover. Be still my heart: did one better and made a bot that will do this for you! Check out .

An ex-boyfriend once suggested I cook us dinner rather than going out or ordering in because “it’s free.” This made me think about that and a lot more

I’ve been working myself to the bone the past couple months. Cat life looks more preferable to me at the moment.

There are 47 signatures from alumni, with more coming. When I left Kickstarter, there were 100-150 full-time employees.

Today KSRU officially requested voluntary recognition of our union, and we are waiting to see if it will be granted. We stand firm in our commitment not to call for any boycotts, but we need your help.

A week ago, I came up with this joke as a way to vent about interpreting. It wasn't about white interpreters; it's about not having black male interpreters to work with when I needed them. I was working with the editor on the documentary film, "Signing Black in America." *thread*

I worked at Kickstarter for 3.5 years. Solidarity with my former colleagues. Last week at XOXO, talked about unions and how important Kickstarter's would be. The Kickstarter CEO sat a row up from me. I wonder what he took away from the talk.
