For sure agree.
Depends how you define failing. It is possible to collect fees and do nothing for years on end.
It is also possible for a person to hang back while others at their firm are 110%.
For an individual VC trying to back great companies, I agree.

There is no such thing as quiet quitting in VC — you are either 110% in on the startup ecosystem or you will fail.

Realized: many VCs are now quiet quitting.

Inbox Zero. I truly don't think I've ever gotten to Inbox Zero before. I've always had some stupid email lingering. But tonight at 1:32am I have gotten to inbox zero. I will now go to sleep and awaken to 30 new emails. But for this brief moment, I am the master of my inbox!

Got my new iPhone but forgot that all iPhones are carefully designed to never fit in old cases. I am surprised by how nervous having a caseless iPhone is making me. You’d think I hadn’t bought the bionic Apple Care for the price of the phone.

I would love to see that data. What is a “lucky VC” if not someone who has the fortune of finding amazing companies? So how would luck correlate with bad performance? I guess it depends upon your definition of “lucky.”
Quote Tweet
Replying to @DelJohnsonVC and @m2jr
The really interesting thing according to the data is that the lucky VCs end up performing worse than the unlucky ones in the long run, so VC has created a system that elevates the worst future performers. It's one of the biggest problems in all of finance.

Emailing a VC and saying “I saw your Portfolio and it looks like we are focused on the same market” is not the same thing as doing the work to actually see where there are synergies in my portfolio. Raising money is hard. And it starts with that first email.

We have been doing all of these things at The Lobby conference since we returned to in person events (thelobbyconference.com). It helps that The Lobby is in Hawaii where outdoors is the default.

- You MUST make masks and rapid tests free and easy to grab. You have to budget for this.
- Consider a vaccination/testing policy.
- Consider the ventilation of the venue. Talk to experts in this if you need to.
- Make as make meals outdoors as possible.
