Not to mention that it’s mainly lobbying of politicians like @JebBush and his nepotistic connections with textbook manufactures to ensure his family and friends make billions off these tests while our teachers starve and our kids lose knowledge.
As a former teacher, let me paraphrase Eisenhower: "Beware the Textbook Industrial Complex". Standardized tests are mostly for the benefit of stockholders and politicians, not students.
This is what happens when you try to run education like a business. The purpose of a business is to make profit. The purpose of a school is to educate. If you run the school like a business, you're going to prioritize generating profit over education.
