Intolerance will not end intolerance. We must peacefully combat intolerance with love and education. If our solution to hate is to be hateful of the intolerant— we’ll still be having this conversation 100 years from now. I refuse to wait.

Violence towards the oppressor enables them to justify more violence and oppression. Secondly, it affirms their belief their actions are justified because those they oppress are now seen as objects not humans, enabling more oppression.

Nonviolence is not the same as staying silent or passive in the face of intolerance and oppression. MLK, Jr. did not just acquiesce to those who oppressed him. He stood up and fought. Love sadly does not resolve all. Evil must be met with strength and a refusal to back down.
