I agree that mental illness is used as a diversion from real issues of violence and nationalism; but also I think hate can be understood as a form of mental illness, and an illness that is contagious.

(1)those two things are not mutually exclusive. You can be both.(2) there is a huge difference between clinical insanity and criminal insanity. I mean, Jeffrey Dahmer was clinically insane, but because he took steps to hide his crimes he understood they were CRIMES. Legally sane.

While it's true that many spree killers have mental illnesses, only a virtually nonexistent percentage of those with mental illnesses go on to commit spree killers. Same as how all huskies are dogs, but not all dogs are huskies.
