There’s a reason why when learn about the 1920s we read Great Gatsby and not about the massive reserance of white nationalism, beginning of mass incarceration/mandatory minimums, burning down of Black Wall Street or the brith of a massive federal police state.
The character Tom Buchanan in The Great Gatsby is a white nationalist type, iirc. There is a lot of American ugliness embedded in that book.
Also Fitzgerald reflected those views. How ironic that the Depression came after the Roaring Twenties of White nationalism and a world war to deal with global white nationalism/fascism which nearly destroyed the world.
