As someone who dragged myself out of depression without treatment, I find that offensive. Treatment can help, but it is not the only way. It's true we should not expect anyone to tough it out, but don't belittle people who are fighting it alone.

Speaking as someone who is currently trying to drag themselves out of depression without treatment - no one is belittling you here. You've chosen to take the hard road. That's your perogative. That doesn't make you better than someone who makes a smart choice and seeks help.

I am Bi-Polar. I will be on medication the rest of my life. So far its been 20 years and Im still kicking but its due to therapy, MEDS and support. If people would just close their mouths, and open their ears, maybe they would understand mental illness MORE and stigmatize LESS.

I’ve been on medication for my mental health since I was 15. Last summer I decided to see who I am without meds. As it turns out, I am a person who needs to be medicated. Therapy and living mindfully also help. I’m doing what’s best for me and I feel no shame.

In many cases, it will never be fixed. You will need medication forever. And that is okay. It's a chronic condition sometimes. And we need to stop this idea that mentally ill people are violent. Most of us struggle just to get out of bed in the morning.

It’s ludicrous that anyone thinks of mental health problems are any diff than heart or other problems!

Also, you can’t fix people. You can treat illness and help them live better lives. It doesn’t go away after treatment. It’s something we all live with in one form or another.

My mom had mental health issues but you did not talk about it! It ended with her suicide. Perhaps because of this I have always been open about my stuggles, allowing others to open up in return. It took many years for a correct diagnosis & meds but it worked.

THANK YOU. Even small doses of certain meds can be the difference between functioning and falling apart.
