Of course I don’t blame these sites for wanting to keep us on as long as possible because they want to make as much money as possible. But I do think there need to be some legal limitations on what data campaigns have access to and what they can advertise.

You already are. You have no idea how many seeds of hope your voice has planted, all around the world. There are days when it feels hopeless, unbearable and impossible to change. And those are the days to rest and be loved. The change you're creating goes way beyond algorithms xx

My feelings exactly. I said something similar to David the other day (except not so eloquently).

It’s basically the social media equivalent to ratings. And, why has the news media fallen apart? Seeking ratings instead of actual news that can impact the world. Now, they seek sensationalism through arguments & conflict.

Leave it. Build better ones. Back in "olden days" people built real communities on the web – sci-fi fans, stay-at-home moms, bikers, etc – and grew relationships with fairly diverse people within them. Meanwhile hate propaganda simply wasn't welcome on most of them, isolating it.

Idk how to fix it, either. But have begun giving things in my feed a closer look, before I comment or RT. If it looks like it could possibly have purpose of creating division, I pass. Mueller report talked about that. There's alot of provocateurs on here.

While social media is full of people crying that we need to say the Pledge & teach cursive in school (we do both in the schools I work in), we need to be way more focused on teaching critical thinking when online. Schools are barely doing that at all.

People don’t want to think anymore. They want someone else to do it for them. They pick the first thing that sounds good and support it without checking all the facts.
