It’s not all about mental illness, the majority of the problem is the gun.

And if anyone says the problem is “people” then ask they why they are okay with arming the problem.

Thank you. Found out today my cousin shot himself Monday. He suffered from bipolar disorder. He had 2 kids and was 44. A Red Flag Law in Ohio might have saved his life as would access to mental health services. I am gutted.

-
I am so very sorry. I completely agree about the Red Flag Laws.

How about universal background checks? Trump was for it, then met with the
#nra and completely flopped on it. -
IINM he also said he was for raising the age of being able to purchase guns and then nothing happened. Don't believe Trump.

Then there’s the fact a government representing 300 Million should be fully capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time, addressing mental health AND sensible gun control. It should never be a zero sum endeavor.

Some cases may have an element of mental illness, but not all. Agree mental health funding is needed given our country’s suicide rate.

As a retired therapist, I can confirm these recent killings weren't from mental illness. Psychiatric patients with medical psychosis are more likely to harm to themselves and are at risk for suicide. They isolate, stay in. These murderers were not psychotic. They knew & planned.

As a therapist, I agree that mental illness is sometimes downplayed, but I think it's because people are afraid that when the focus is on mental illness, it's off of guns. We need to be able to regulate guns AND fund mental health care!
