We have a Congress that historically represents those with the most privilege, not the people they “represent” The only way we can fix this and create an actually representative Congress/government is for new and diverse constituents to run for office

At minimum giving people options to vote for candidates with similar life experiences to them. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: We need more diversity of experience in Congress. Often times many experiences are exclusive to women, people of color and poor ppl.

I’d add people with disabilities too. They’re ignored and/or discriminated against by those currently in Congress. Worse still, they’ve been openly mocked by the president.

Onya David. Diversity of constituents should automatically lead to diversity of representatives. The fact that it consistently doesn't points to a very large problem in the system.

Diversity means nothing if the individual isn’t qualified to do the job. Qualifications are the utmost importance, race, creed, religion is a far second to being qualified.

Giving people the option to vote for candidates with diverse experiences is important. And so is giving people the freedom to vote for their chosen candidate, without making them jump through hoops to do so. We need both.
