A little over 50% of the United States is female. There are more men in the US House named Jim than there are Republican congresswomen running for re-election. That’s it, that’s the tweet.
The argument that it’s only based on merit is complete bullshit and is the same argument that’s been used for hundreds of years to oppress women with the same notion that the reason why there weren’t any in power was because none of them had the “merit” to be there.
We have a Congress that historically represents those with the most privilege, not the people they “represent” The only way we can fix this and create an actually representative Congress/government is for new and diverse constituents to run for office
At minimum giving people options to vote for candidates with similar life experiences to them. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: We need more diversity of experience in Congress. Often times many experiences are exclusive to women, people of color and poor ppl.
Having mainly upper class, older cis white men does not scream diversity of experience to me.
It's weird how you'd rather people be in positions of authority based on arbitrary characteristics, like sex, rather than merit... Although, what can we expect from someone who bought their way into Harvard?
It’s weird how you fail to understand the historical disadvantages women and people of color have to overcome simply to be included in conversations that concern their life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Meritocracy is a sham. We can discuss more if you’re interested.

Agreed.
There's something us men have to acknowledge:
We are easily bought.
We are easy to manipulate.
Our "moral compass" still directs toward whoever we think is alpha.
