I know, like trying to disarm everyone.

It breaks my heart as an old person watching everything I’ve fought for and gained being undone. Then handing this world over to your generation. My childhood was Vietnam, my twenties the advent of AIDS. The human condition can change on a dime, though. Take heart.

I'm 55. It's pretty damned humbling to watch Americans do and say things I never thought we would. "Jews will not replace us?" I once visited the holocaust museum in Jerusalem with a German girl I had a secret crush on. Her reaction was heartbreaking. Turns out we are no better.

Don't lose heart, David. We are going to fight this with all we've got.

The problem is, history doesn’t actually repeat. It rhymes.

As a public school history teacher, I can say it's really because students and communities aren't valuing history and aren't studying it close enough to realize what's happening!

This does answer the question on how the German people allowed the Nazis to take power.
