At first I was thinking this was some sort of metaphor for the whole gun control debate.... then I realized you’re probably actually going surfing... What a world. Enjoy the waves!

There are many places to surf in Hawaii where the waves aren't gigantic

Don’t go in the winter. Waves will kill you, especially on North Shore. Spring/Summer is fine. Just respect the kama’aina and you’ll be great. Source: wife is kama’aina from Maui

There are smaller waves to be surfed all around the islands. Have a great time.

The waves won’t destroy you, but the coral could. Hire an instructor. They know what’s up. Fall flat or belly flop so you don’t go far under water because sharp coral is what makes those perfect waves. You’ll be standing on your own in no time.

I learned how to surf, at 48, in Hanalei Bay on northern coast of Kaua’i island, just north of Hanalei Pier. Inside the bay, the waves are much smaller, perfect for a beginner. Outside the bay, beyond the reef, the waves are great once you’ve mastered it.http://www.hanaleisurfschool.com/surf-lessons/

Go to Waikiki beach. Best wave in the world to learn on.
