Stop saying “you’ll get over it.” You don’t get over something that never should have happened because those that die from gun violence are stolen from us not naturally lost. Trauma and loss don’t just go away, you have to learn to live with it through getting support.

David, I am so sorry. You're 100% right. I lost my older brother unexpectedly at 7. It took me until I was 45, to realize through therapy, that I had survivors guilt. I had said something the day he died & had blamed myself 4 his death. Please get help 4 PTSD. It helped me.

So grateful to you and all the students who have survived this trauma . . . I appreciate how difficult it must be and wish I could hold you all close to me and shower you with love and kindness. Please continue sparkling, you are a bright and shining star

WE NEED YOU

And for me if you could keep speaking out as a survivor I personally would appreciate your thoughts as they come up for you. Some one once told me 28 years ago you are not supposed to bury your children ....

If the entire planet had no guns w/o killings that would be great. Getting weapons/guns illegally is always there- think deep web, etc. What do we do when a shooter attacks? Kill the shooter with a gun!

How often has that actually happened ? How easy is it for law enforcement to shoot the wrong good guy with the gun (happemed in a mall shooting). No law prevents everything but we sure need to create deterrents now dont we?

And that is where they are making a HUGE mistake. Acting as though everything is fine, only encourages people to cover up their pain and it builds inside, until all they feel is the pain. There has to be a release valve on it, a way to let it out, otherwise, eventually that pain

In comparison w/ New Zealand’s response though, 6 days and they change the laws. Snap just like that! They make it look easy. This should not be so hard here. We look ignorant and stubborn and foolish in comparison. Change can happen in a reasonable society. Not in the USA.

It’s so disheartening. Dealing with my sisters suicide from 10 weeks ago. There are incredible books on this subject. Prayers and healing for you and your community.

Parkland was basically what cemented my decision to go to grad school to be a psychiatric nurse practitioner. I spent weeks just kind of feeling helpless about the whole situation, but eventually concluded that that was the best way I could help.

My idea of ptsd is a visual. Picture a tiny corner of your brain that switches on every morning. It's a subconscious green light saying "live." We all have it. When shock happens many of us wake up and the light doesn't go on. Without it other functions shut down like dominoes.
