We’re currently in a time where students are reporting record high levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. Our schools need serious mental health funding and proper guidance counselors that aren't just paid schedulers but are ACTUAL guidance counselors.
ESPECIALLY in city schools that are historically underfunded. That face the most gun violence in the United States yet are given little to no resources to deal with the trauma it brings resulting in more retaliation and violence.
I agree. I’m a school psych and I am overloaded with testing and schools don’t want to pay for extra people to come and help out. Our numbers should be 1:700 kids. We are usually at 1:1200 kids. Not right. Yes, let’s get the word out! We need more school psychs and counselors!!!

Yes, our schools deserve better funding. Also, our children deserve to live in a world that allows them to grow up happy and safe.

I am a school counselor and we do way more than just schedule. In my school, we try to guide students through all aspects of school and life including mental health support and future planning. I’m really lucky. However, even we get pulled away for testing and other duties.
I’m a retired school psychologist. I think the staff to student ratio is an issue. The funding formula (I’m in Ca) and general lack of Mental Health funding and follow up.
Funding of schools is a state issue. If you want to get more funding it will have to be done at the state level. Concerning gun violence, the biggest issue I see is the lack of respect for life by many people these days. Until people's attitudes towards others changes nothing
