Paldies. Es gribu runāt latviešu un angliski. I may not be fluent, but I try to speak the language my mother and grandparents spoke when they came here, fleeing WWII. I tell my ESL students to be proud about speaking two languages. It gives you advantages!

I wish we even pretended to care still. When I was in school, there was a language requirement. Just learning about other languages, gender of nouns, grammar and sociology helps a lot.

Exactly! I live in SATX, aka Military Town USA! Any major store I go to I hear different languages! No one is bothered by this! We’re accustomed to it!
