I refused once at the start of the Gulf war in 1990. The teacher made an example of me by trying to shame me. So, I said it as slowly & in the most possible version of monotone. Inschool detentions for a few weekends. Authority is a Hell of a drug. Nationalism is just a chaser.

Isn't it funny that in that the land of the free punishes anything that goes agienst the grain. This country is built on freedom of speech, and yet people seem to only want that to apply to what they agree with and anything else can fuck off. pardon my presidential language

That's totally unconstitutional. Jehovah's Witnesses and some other groups do not salute the flag because they consider it worship of a graven image (which it is). Mike Dukakis vetoed a bill like that as gov. of MA, /1

Dukakis paid for it dearly in the 1988 Presidential election when G.H.W. Bush relentlessly and repeatedly attacked his patriotism. Yes, the "gentlemanly," "reasonable" George Bush that I didn't recognize in all those eulogies. The GOP has been dragging us this way for years.
