Hi David, I’m not sure how much we agree on gun policy. But I 100% stand behind you on this. Naming mass shooters does no good for anybody. Media companies need to take more responsibility for their actions.

Philip Defranco stopped a long time ago and even one of my local news stations refused to do it for a specific time period, which is a step. It's not a hard thing to move focus from the shooters.

There should be no face or name recognition. We are just giving them what they want.

I have never understood this. If you want to publish a story about the aftermath of a tragedy, focus on the stories of those lost and injured. Focus on the impact their lives had on others, and the impact their loss and injuries will have.
-
Focus on how we can change things for the better. Focus on how the community, and the world needs to and can support those who were impacted. Focus on how we can work to prevent the next tragedy.

New journalistic standards are required in this mass shooting era. Media outlets have almost always abided by a certain code of conduct that includes what is best for the victims and what is best for society at large.

You nailed one of the reasons I stopped buying USA TODAY. It was beginning to look something like the NATIONAL INQUIRER. There's more than enough current news to preclude grandstanding articles from the past. There's pkenty of that sort of documentation on Internet.

I always thought it should be an alphanumeric system. MI19002 Meaning it was in Michigan, the year 2019 and the second shooter, not even the date. No photo ever.
