Let’s arm students with a great public education!

Not because teachers are somehow all unstable because this woman was; not because we're more dangerous or more likely to carry out a shooting at school: because guarding the lives of students is not a teacher's job.

In an emergency a teacher should act like any responsible adult and try to protect children; but we should not use teachers to try to prevent emergencies. We don't have to hold the roof up in an earthquake, we should not have to take down the attacker in a shooting.

Let's arm teachers with school supplies, current textbooks, proper technology, decent wages, and the comfort of knowing common sense gun laws exist so they don't have to worry about taking a hail of bullets to protect their students.

I'm a teacher, and arming teachers is a terrible idea. Teachers are not superhuman and can't adequately perform this role at the same time they are guiding and protecting young lives. We don't want or need guns in schools.
