Second reminder for those that didn't grow up around guns. Even if a gun doesn't have a magazine in it can still have a round in the chamber.

It’s a reminder for those who *did* grow up around guns. Those who didn’t grow up around guns treat them with more respect than those who thought guns were part of the family.

More respect yet less experience, knowledge and good habits. As a French person, assault rifles are not common in my country. I do not treat them as toys and am very careful with guns. Yet I could've shot myself with an AR-15 while in the USA. Glad I had people looking after me.

This is how my 16 yr old brother died. He thought taking the clip out of a 9mm was unloading, the one in the chamber severed the artery to his heart when his friend pulled the trigger. He died instantly. That was 27 yrs ago. I will never forget the phone call from the coroner.

And the safety on many older guns may not work as expected. If you are going to own a gun you need to be responsible and check these things out regularly. Your device can (and does) kill.

This is precisely how my son became a quadriplegic. A faulty safety on a handgun not secured in a locked cabinet to keep it out of the hands of a thoughtless teenager.
