The fact that a student even has to entertain this thought is heart wrenching and sickening.
Survivability should not be a factor when choosing where to sit in class.

Sadly, this has become my everyday consideration when entering a market, restaurant or any other place of business. My mind is assessing escape routes and where to hide if a mass shooting were to occur. Until it happened in my community, it didn’t seem real.

Yesterday I saw a piece about teaching kids first aid — how to staunch bleeding. Frankly, it was flabbergasting. Very, very sad. We have to keep banging the drums until something is done about GUN CONTROL.

It would add so much stress and anxiety, make the pending attack seem all the more likely, something they need to be ready for and can never forget for a minute. This is so damaging to their psyches. They're living in a war zone. Our politicians are shameless, worthless, & vile.

Hyper vigilant posture in public spaces, sounds familiar. Many veterans, including myself, weigh seating options based on location and availability/view of exits. Friends now accommodate my hyper vigilance and offer me the seat facing the door, saving me from checking my 6.
