It wasn't always that way. Schools used to teach U.S. Government, Social Studies and subject good citizenship. But, after the anti war protests of the Vietnam war, those subjects disappeared. Citizens who don't know or understand their government tend to demand less of government

Yep.. NEVER watched anything Kardashian in my life and NEVER will. Don't watch "REALITY TV" ever.. Haven't a clue who any of The Housewives are and wouldn't watch Naked and Afraid if my life depended on it..but America? Not so much huh?

Actually, I think it's sad that so many Americans have no real clue about or interest in how the government or the local/national/global economy works. That laziness, apathy, and self-absorption is exactly what's led us to where we are today. Time to learn!

It's a cycle: apathy comes from self-assurance. "Things are working out for me so everything is fine". The loss of the concept of the common good is a big aspect of that selfishness. Once the floodgates open and people see the flaws of the system, people start to act. Not before.
