It's time Congress repeal the federal law passed soon after the creation of the CPSC in the 1970s that bars the agency from setting safety standards for firearms. Congress has the power to make guns safer so we can reduce accidental shootings significantly.

It is sad that simple things that would cut down collateral damage can't be put in place.

Nearly every firearm comes with a lock, the ones that don't require an affidavit that the buyer owns a qualified safe for storage before the purchase can be completed. Additionally, many, although not all, handguns already feature a loaded chamber indicator.
