this is why gun ownership needs a system of permits and training. We do not live in teh NRAs fantasy land where everyone lives on a farm and Dad teaches their kids respect for firearms.

You are correct, gun owners need to be sure their weapons are secure. But folks need to realize we also don’t live in a fantasy world where criminals will follow gun laws. I have the right to protect my family.

A 2 y.o. found a gun while visiting a friend's home w/his parents in Rusk, TX, picked it up & shot himself in the neck. He died.

The NRA could, if they would, take up the cause of gun safety. It is not inconsistent with their mission.

You are wrong the NRA is very much into gun safety. Even offering classes from NRA certified instructors. What we have here is a people problem. Not a gun problem.

My next door neighbor shot himself in the head playing around with a real gun after him & another guy shot targets with an air gun & he lost ... they were drinking...I heard it all...even him talking to paramedics & cops...he died at the hospital...not toys..not at all.

To too many people, a gun today is a must have accessory, to give them credibility in their social circle. Nobody takes a hat or scarf seriously.
