The effective range of an AR-15 is 1600 feet for comparison your typical handgun is 75 feet if you’re shooting somebody from 1600 feet away you’re not defending yourself...

When you say “self-defense” means protecting yourself from the “common criminal” then I understand why you don’t think civilians need a long gun. Except the point of 2A was not protection from burglars; it is protection from a tyrannical govt.
