This is all a direct consequence of years of propaganda from the GOP about the federal government being worthless and wasteful and serving no purpose, and a Democratic party that allows them to get away with it. Because the gov't forces many employees to continue to report to

work without being paid, the general public's perception that the federal government is reinforced because a shutdown has no real impact on them. Some of the functions can be deferred; the ones that cannot be deferred: public safety, air travel, social security checks; VA medical

Continue to occur like clockwork, seamlessly and with no apparent impact. This is why if we are going to have a shut down, we should be forced to have a SHUT DOWN. All employees should be furloughed. All services should be shuttered. Air travel should be suspended.

Nothing gonna change 'til people at the top of the food chain feel the pinch. Congresspeople can't get home on the week-end? Aw, too bad. Can't get through customs after your trip to Switzerland? Aw, too bad. It's got to stop being the little people who pay all the time.

Oh, it would stop in a heart beat if there was an actual threat that we were going to shut down the federal criminal system shut down and all of those inmates would be released back into the community with a promise to behave until the prison reopened.

Or if grandma and grandpa got word that they wouldn't be getting a social security check or a doctor's appointment until the federal government reopened.

Frankly, I'm not counting on the SS check. It's scary. I need that to live. I have a dr. appt next week. is Medicare gonna kick in? I don't know. FOR ME it's real, it's scary. For McConnell? I doubt it.

Dude couldn't run an internet steak company. Of course he has no idea what the government does.
-
To be fair, an internet steak company is a really, really bad idea. Who could run that successfully?

I dunno, the folks at
@OmahaSteaks do a pretty fantastic job. -
Also, send me free steaks.

I caught that too! I’ll tag
@OmahaSteaks in every tweet if it will get me 20lbs of filet or tenderloin. - 1 more reply

This is why I'm concerned that Trump will not fold. Like the "let's default on the debt" crowd from 2011, they are arsonists. They don't care about governing well. They just want to destroy.
-
That's been GOP's method of grabbing power at any cost since Gingrinch - they've convinced Democrats & themselves that they don't care how badly they damage the country. They've staged 1 hostage crisis after another since the 90s Time to call their bluff cause this can't go on.

I can't with guy. The mistake that his voters made and he did was thinking the government was run like a business.
-
Funny thing is the notion that he's a brilliant businessman is ridiculous. He isn't running the country like a country and he sure as hell isn't running it like a well run business either.
-
Kind of like the way he bankrupted his own businesses.
