Breathtaking story in the @washingtonpost about how one reason that Team Trump was so ready to shut down govt was: they had no idea what the govt does https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/millions-face-delayed-tax-refunds-cuts-to-food-aid-as-white-house-scrambles-to-deal-with-shutdown/2019/01/04/b5b58616-0fa3-11e9-8938-5898adc28fa2_story.html?utm_term=.1432fa01c904 …pic.twitter.com/hJt3nezvia

This is all a direct consequence of years of propaganda from the GOP about the federal government being worthless and wasteful and serving no purpose, and a Democratic party that allows them to get away with it. Because the gov't forces many employees to continue to report to

Continue to occur like clockwork, seamlessly and with no apparent impact. This is why if we are going to have a shut down, we should be forced to have a SHUT DOWN. All employees should be furloughed. All services should be shuttered. Air travel should be suspended.

Nothing gonna change 'til people at the top of the food chain feel the pinch. Congresspeople can't get home on the week-end? Aw, too bad. Can't get through customs after your trip to Switzerland? Aw, too bad. It's got to stop being the little people who pay all the time.

Oh, it would stop in a heart beat if there was an actual threat that we were going to shut down the federal criminal system shut down and all of those inmates would be released back into the community with a promise to behave until the prison reopened.

Frankly, I'm not counting on the SS check. It's scary. I need that to live. I have a dr. appt next week. is Medicare gonna kick in? I don't know. FOR ME it's real, it's scary. For McConnell? I doubt it.

This is why I'm concerned that Trump will not fold. Like the "let's default on the debt" crowd from 2011, they are arsonists. They don't care about governing well. They just want to destroy.

That's been GOP's method of grabbing power at any cost since Gingrinch - they've convinced Democrats & themselves that they don't care how badly they damage the country. They've staged 1 hostage crisis after another since the 90s Time to call their bluff cause this can't go on.

Funny thing is the notion that he's a brilliant businessman is ridiculous. He isn't running the country like a country and he sure as hell isn't running it like a well run business either.
