ROM Residential, which owns apartments in my district, is trying to extract the meager support working Angelenos are getting from the govt and even *charities* if they can’t make rent. During a pandemic. This is beyond shameful.

I sent this letter to ROM Residential letting them know that their intimidation tactics will not be tolerated. They’ve also tried to get tenants to sign agreements, and conveniently failed to tell tenants that they have 12 MONTHS following this pandemic to repay missed rent.pic.twitter.com/j1C1qFfhvK

I am so thankful to advocates like
@CESinAction,@SAJE_ShiftPower and others who have been trying to help tenants being intimidated right now. We are here to help if you think your rights as a tenant are being violated. Learn more here: https://hcidla.lacity.org/covid-19-eviction-moratorium …Show this thread -
In short, it is *never* OK to intimidate or lie to tenants just to make a quick buck. During an unprecedented pandemic, it is morally corrupt.

During this
#Coronavirus pandemic, every Angeleno should be doing their part to help their neighbor. I’m only asking ROM Residential to take their foot of the necks of their tenants. I will use everything I have to hold ROM Residential & landlords like them to account.Show this thread

Why not have an official city form/agreement that must be used? Does the law have any teeth/penalties for landlords misbehaving like this?

I mean, protect landlords so they don't lose their buildings (or have services shut off); we NEED to protect renters, but owners (esp smaller ones) shouldn't be left in the cold either. ALSO, explicitly state landlords cannot shut off services for their buildings.
