Sonos has now moved from offering to brick devices to threatening to do so. Mail I just received says my devices are eol in May and do not have enough compute resources to "sustain innovation". Get a real business model folks, claiming these can't sustain playing music is not it.

Selling a consumer product then turning it into a limited rental service is a heck of a bait-and-switch. Guess I won't be buying any more Sonos gear.

If they'd have had a service subscription of some form for "sustainability' I'd probably be willing to pay it. They failed to identify a business model that sustains them. Anyway, I agree. I guess I'll finally be building replacements this year.

Literally like "we need $100 for another 10 years service" would be a no brainier, if it was delivered with honesty and integrity, I'd pay it.

And if that came with a service where I could send in the units with a busted cap and they'd fix em and send them back, all the better.

This mess is a good lesson in why shady companies shouldn't use high quality caps.
