2/2 So Spotify buys a data company called "Seed." Look what they say about themselves: "Today, our algorithms, insights, and applications are beneath the surface of major brands, NGOs, and governments. We are thrilled to now be joining forces with Spotify" http://seedscientific.com

3/ Everyone is pissed that FaceBook shared user data with 3rd party firms, but this is exactly how Spotify ad branding works. But they know more than facebook. Think of your most private moments, sad? fearful? melancholic? you listen to a specific track. They are spying.

4/ "The more we demonstrate our ability to predict traits and attributes about people, and the more we demonstrate...that our first-party data is uniquely rich and our methodologies are quite advanced, the more it excites us to go deeper." https://spotifyforbrands.com/en-GB/insights/what-is-the-value-of-streaming-data/ … Creepy right?

5/ Specifically Seed Scientific mentions they work with NGOs and Governments. Why? Which governments? Which NGOS? Hold that thought. Look at this first. http://nordic.businessinsider.com/spotify-and-tencent-have-agreed-to-swap-shares-and-form-a-music-streaming-alliance--/ …

Spotify and Tencent Swap stakes? Tencent owns the streaming market in China 100%.They don't need Spotify, and Spotify is not getting into Chinese market. Spotify got this: 2ndary market value for shares, so they could argue $20 billion for IPO valuation.https://www.recode.net/2018/1/3/16847786/spotify-tpg-tencent-debt-dragoneer-ipo-music-streaming …

7/ So what did Tencent get for 20 billion? Hold that thought. First what do we know about Tencent? Ever see the Black Mirror episode Nosedive?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nosedive

Nosedive is not really completely fictional.Tencent and Alibaba operate a service like that on behalf of the Chinese government. A Social Credit Score. Gathers data on individuals across a wide variety of services. Including this "game"https://www.wired.com/story/age-of-social-credit/ …

10. What does Tencent get for $20 Billion 10% stake in Spotify now? A closer working relationship with Spotify that may or may not include your highly personal data. If they are sharing this data with brands, it's really not that far fetched.

11. But more likely, when Spotify goes belly up, after all the initial investors have bailed out, cause you know it will. Don't be surprised if Tencent buys Spotify, like they have purchased many other iconic western brands. Only this time the deal comes with all your data.

12. Time for US and European governments to get ahead of this. Start thinking about whether highly revealing user data should be allowed to transfer to a company that is really an arm of an authoritarian state. In the meantime don't listen to this album Tibetan Freedom Concert

13. And note, apparently that album is not available on Spotify. There are only user created playlists of studio tracks.

14. "The system is even affecting potential relationships. Business Insider also reports that 15 per cent of users on the popular Chinese dating app Baihe display their social credit scores openly in order to weed out lower scorers and woo higher ones."http://nationalpost.com/entertainment/television/black-mirrors-chilling-social-credit-score-is-a-reality-in-china …

15. Spotify needs to immediately disclose what information they are sharing with TenCent and other 3rd parties. @

16. Just noticed this. I think they are trying to say, we can figure out your religious practices: "Are they the the kind of person who has a very specific weekday behavior, so Sunday is noticeably different than the rest of the week?" https://spotifyforbrands.com/en-GB/insights/what-is-the-value-of-streaming-data/ …

17. Which may seem par for the course for ad-spy-industrial complex. But add this to Tencent (10% owner of Spotify) =Chinese State and PRC persecution of religious minorities? Not Good. And Spotify owned data analytics firm Seed Scientific notes "governments" as clients.pic.twitter.com/na5lnqkBLT
