This is a terrible tragedy and awful end to a brutal year. It is a system failure that resulted in irreversible harm to two families. My heart goes out to the families of the victims. We will hold the man who did this accountable. We will support the families of the victims

I supported, canvassed for, and voted for you. I want criminal justice reform as much as the next person. But right now all I see from you are celebrations of prosecuting cops and excuses. At best you are losing the messaging battle 1/

Real criminal justice reform is a) remove weed from federal scheduling, focus only dealers in hard drugs & b) increase funds for public defenders, so they can credibly hold DAs accountable AT TRIAL. Releasing violent people will lead to wicked backlash, as it has before.

In an era when police interaction with people is fraught with tension, we have to let weed go and focus on drugs that are immediately killing people. Zero appetite for the widespread, aggressive policing necessary to dent weed consumption.

Not looking to improve relations, just looking to avoid further deterioration. Acknowledge that weed not problem-free, but don’t have resources to battle every ill. And not sending cops out to roust weed smokers is not “encouraging” drug use.
