The drip, drip, drip of revelations on this doc story is suboptimal. But the Trump and Biden stories remain vastly different. The former willfully absconded with hundreds of docs and resisted repeated attempts to get them back. Neither appears true in 's case.

"Embattled Rep. George Santos persuaded at least one person to make a six-figure investment in a Florida-based company that the SEC later said was a Ponzi scheme." I'm beginning to the link this guy may not be on the up and up!🙄

Remember how the Right excused Trump when he knowingly took hundreds of classified documents and balked at giving them back? They're awfully noisy now!

Remember how the Left acted when President Trump took so-called “classified” documents to his home? They’re awfully quiet now.

Hmm. Sounds like a scam, by George! How long will be able to cling to this guy?

Looks like George Santos's $700,000 donation to his own campaign may've been laundered money from a Ponzi scheme called "Harbor City Capital," which defrauded investors, selling them fake stocks, totaling over $17 million.

In his first presser today, brayed about what he said was "unequal" treatment of Trump and Biden on the handling of classified docs. I wonder if he's going to look into why the IRS failed to audit Trump's tax returns as required, but did audit Biden's & Obama's?

I had the opportunity to sit down for a long, memorable lunch with Blake Hounshell a few months ago. What a smart, passionate, feeling human being! Like many others, I'm devastated to learn of his passing. My heart goes out to his family. May his memory be a blessing.

Great piece by fmr ⁦@RepCharlieDent⁩ about institutional cost of the deal that made ⁦@SpeakerMcCarthy. Q for today, as Congress returns, is whether Rs who weren't part of negotiations stick by a dangerous deal or reject the rules he agreed to. apple.news/AjOJzZf77SnKVS

With a Dem in the WH & Dems in the senate majority, the House Rs can pass performative legislation to thrill their base with little consequence. The failure to fund the government or see to it that it meets its obligations, however, would be catastrophic. That's a real concern.

It was a very bad auguring for the new Speaker that his final installation happened thanks to Gaetz, who had spent the week loudly proclaiming that McCarthy could not be trusted.

Now that McCarthy is finally, barely installed, it'll be interesting to see if he can marshall support for the rules package and other deals he cut with the dissidents who held him hostage all week.

I mean, the bitter irony of this, as the clocked ticked down on 1/6.

As that commotion was just playing out on the House floor, I am told former President Trump spoke with Andy Biggs and Matt Gaetz, placing the calls as it appeared McCarthy was not going to secure the speakership tonight and the House was going to adjourn until Monday.

I'm old enough to remember-I think it was this afternoon-when McCarthy said this was the week the House Republicans learned to govern.

I'm old enough to remember--I think it was this morning--when Gaetz loudly predicted that McCarthy would NEVER get the votes.

Matt Gaetz: "I am grateful that Speaker-designate McCarthy has been so receptive to each and every change that we have demanded. And Sean we're at the stage right now where I am running out of stuff to ask for."

Word is that @GOPleader has summoned Trump to close to the deal with the holdouts. On the 1/6 anniversary, perhaps all of McCarthy's obsequiousness toward the instigator of the insurrection will have paid off.

This is why no one should frame the speaker fight as being between the “moderates” and the “conservatives.” Those terms have lost all meaning in the context of the modern GOP. It’s just a choice between MTG circus of investigations or the burn it all down, chaos caucus.
