After 25 years of researching aging & having read thousands of scientific papers, if there’s one simple piece of advice to stay healthy longer & max. your lifespan it’s this: eat less often. The cool new stuff is in my book. Excited it’s shipping. Get one.

  3. New study: The SIRT1 longevity gene alleviates anxiety and depression in rats (by suppressing CaMKIIa). SIRT1 boosters such as resveratrol and NMN “may be useful for the treatment of depression in people with .”

  4. Today is an auspicious day. Groundhog Day, Palindrome Day (02022020), and our daughter Alex’s 17th birthday 🎂 It’s true what they say - kids grow up fast and we get old just as fast. So enjoy every moment with them!

  6. Cold stimulates healthy brown fat. Study says the NAD-dependent enzyme Sirt1 mediates resveratrol's browning of fat cells & fat mobilization in mice, "suggesting the potential of Res in the treatment of obesity & metabolic disorders." No more ice baths?

  7. For those over 80 who have an unwitnessed heart attack & no shockable heart rhythm, chances of recovery are zero, yet 44% of doctors said CPR is appropriate. Doctors must limit use of CPR to revive people who will never recover. It’s cruel and expensive.

  8. Loss of NAD during aging inhibits nuclear-encoded genes for mitochondrial proteins. New work suggests it inhibits DNA repair, releasing pieces of nuclear DNA into the cytoplasm, causing SASP inflammation in aging & cancer

  9. Some good news for a change: Cancer death rates in the US have posted the biggest one-year decline ever & life expectancy is back on the rise, though we have some catching up to do. Move. Eat less often. We can do it.

  10. Human variants in the SIRT6 gene predict longevity. In mice, SIRT6 reduces cancer, obesity & increases lifespan. The Denu lab has discovered new SIRT6 activators & an activation mechanism like SIRT1, potentially leveling the playing field 💪😆

  13. I’ve been asked why we didn’t give yeast cells NAD to boost their lifespan. We tried that. Didn’t work. Probably didn’t get in. We needed to boost synthesis of NAD precursors, which, it turned out, is also how low aminos & caloric restriction slow aging

  15. Title of the paper: “Leaf wounding triggers distant gene expression response of polyphenol biosynthesis in strawberry fruit.” Polyphenols are good. They activate the body’s defenses. e.g. resveratrol, quercetin & fisetin activate the Sirt1 defense enzyme against diseases & aging.

  20. Rats that skip breakfast have reduced memory & decreased activation of memory-enhancing genes, e.g. Sirt1 & Tet1. Not only does this explain why I love big morning coffees but it also explains why I love big morning coffees 😐
