Yay! I've been selected for I'm a Scientist Get Me Out of Here () for British Science Week. Will partly be at DUK APC so will be chatting science with school kids, likely drawing on the best of diabetes research from the conference.

This is an excellent lab to work in! JB knows his stuff about chemical biology, is creative and very supportive. He has many many exciting projects in the pipeline. Plus I'll sometimes pay a social visit to grab some Rothaus pils and currywurst. What more could you want?

Wow... the UKRI is taking the “hype” out of research right at the application stage. Best comment in that thread, paraphrased - if you can define the impact, it is not research, it’s technology.

So lots of "I took the train to the meeting, cause it was too far to drive my Tesla to the conference" tweets-could the same folks just annually post a list of all the (largely unnecessary) glam conferences they attend & their personal & work carbon footprints? Thanks y'all

This is bang on the money 👇👇👇. Large fellowships and investigator awards have distorted the UK funding climate, are mainly concentrated in 5 major universities, and benefited a few at the cost of hundreds of talented researchers.
