Can anyone make a good argument - not just shouting "the founders!" and waving your arms around - why we need a drawn-out multi-month ceremony for certifying the election?https://twitter.com/MattGertz/status/1440368886226964481 …

    1. On the evening of Jan. 6, while the violent mob that drove Congress out of its joint session to count electoral votes still held the U.S. Capitol, Trump lawyer John Eastman was on Steve Bannon's show denouncing Mike Pence. https://www.mediamatters.org/fox-news/trump-lawyer-john-eastman-touted-his-plan-overturn-2020-election-interviews-right-wing … pic.twitter.com/gmqorzOOkQ

What if the states certified the presidential elections as they certify every other election and just them emailed the vice president as an .rtf or whatever?

It'd probably make more sense for SCOTUS to certify the results rather than Congress, who may be losing power. Or for a new, independent governmental branch solely focused on elections.

Because the entire US political system is tied to a 200+ year old document that's almost impossible to change and leaves no other options but to follow its prescribed rituals regardless of where they lead.

In the UK, you lose an election, by 7 AM you're handing over your resignation to the Queen, and by noon there's a new Government installed.

At the very least, why isn’t Inauguration Day on January 1st? Give each president the entirety of the 4 years of their term and get rid of the weird extra 3 weeks.

I understand shortening the time between the election and inauguration day, but it isn't an extra 3 weeks
