When Goebbels wrote about a "big lie" he was accusing Churchill of lying about England's military position in early 1941. ("The English follow the principle that when one lies, one should lie big.") Most popular Goebbels "big lie" quotes are fake.https://twitter.com/baseballcrank/status/1397602442280415233 …

"Big Lie" is, of course, a direct reference and parallel to Goebbels. It's a Holocaust analogy. https://twitter.com/daveweigel/status/1397601926586540035 …

It's remembered as "Goebbels said the Third Reich was successful bc it lied to create and murder internal enemies" so that's what we all go with.

Anyway, I'm kind of surprised that Dems have stuck to "Big Lie" as their description of the election conspiracy theories - usually somebody says a reference like that is insensitive and people drop it.

Always seemed a bit implausible to me that a propaganda minister would openly brag about lying.

It's also not a "Holocaust" analogy. Nor is every time the right accuses the left of being "Chamberlain." Not every reference point to World War II or the Nazis is a reference point to the Holocaust. There is a clear line between the two, that Marge Q. Greene crosses.

Exactly. People tend to forget that to Nazi leadership, the Final Solution was, like, line item 12 on the agenda. Which, in a way, underlines the true evil.

The original thread even starts by noting “Big Lie” is explicitly not a Goebbels thing. So it’s funny how quickly it got quote tweeted propagating that.
