IIRC Abrams said "fascist" wasn't anti-Italian, because it could refer to Hitler. D'Amato trotted out a rabbi who said in that case it was anti-Semitic

Al D'Amato did a lot of racist things, like imitating O.J. Simpson trial judge Lance Ito, using a thick Japanese accent Ito doesn't have. I wouldn't be inclined to give old Al the benefit of the doubt.
