Yeah, i dig into the sub-questions but this is my fourth campaign as a reporter and I've found that the horse race numbers are simply begging to be overturned by Iowa/NH

Political journalism is a tough biz, man ... why tie one hand (or pinky) behind your back?

It's good policy when my candidate is slumping; terrible policy when my candidate is surging. So give me 5000 words on the
#ButtiSurge. -
On face value-good policy but Pete is correct in his assessment. Ultimately, the real question is way does NH & Iowa hold so much sway? If Dems want to shake up democracy (ie 16 yr old voters-no Electoral college) wouldn't making CA or NY the first primary state be a bolder move.

If national primary polls don't receive currency in the media then that further biases the primary towards iowa, new hampshire, south carolina, etc. We already have a colossally stupid primary system, don't make it worse

I feel like national polls are still relevant for gauging broad shifts. To the extent contributions and other metrics replace that function it's fine. But why not just use them with this sort of caveat? Polls are useful even if people don't understand when/why they're useful.

Polls are fine as long as people understand the context. I'm guessing most don't. National popularity for a Presidential candidate is fine but not as relative as per state popularity.
