Dave Weigel Retweeted Sen. Grassley Press

Most interesting part of this IMO is Grassley repeating the conservative CW about the New Deal, that it "did not create economic growth." Average GDP growth over FDR's first four fiscal years: 8.3%.https://twitter.com/GrassleyPress/status/1105501359086940160 …

Sen. @ChuckGrassley discussed the Green New Deal from the Senate floor. “The Green New Deal is both breathtaking in its professed ambitions and quite frankly laughably weak. It is just a resolution calling on the government to enact a whole range of policies,” he said. pic.twitter.com/LzgtwGS9RD

Are we still pretending these arguments are made in good faith? Alrighty then.

I'm sure it would have been 500% or something without the New Deal though.

I’m for the New Deal, the Green New Deal, etc. But this is like citing jobs numbers for Obama. If you start out in the basement, growth is easy to come by.

And yet things only hit bottom and started to turn around once FDR got into office.

The problem with this whole narrative is that it really is narrow thinking. Did the disaster response to fukushima create growth? How could we profit from global disaster? The global economy is set to shrink by 15 - 50% by 2100. This is ABSURD.

The growth in first few years of FDR's admin was almost entirely erased by downturn of 1937-38.

Isn't that because of the Great Depression? Not sure the ND was causal. Some say it was a damper.
