The first binary executable I ever wrote was with a bootleg Turbo Pascal compiler (the French version) and it was my sense of godlike power and the comparatively immense speed that got me into programming
There are few thrills that can hold a candle to writing directly to vga screen ram.
After variations of Basic, it was Borland Turbo C++, but to be honest, it didn't stick. It's almost a wonder that I learned to program at all.
Same, I went from TP6 at home in highschool to TC++ 3.something at university. Same editor, same tools, but it felt like a step backwards.
I almost have a museum of old software I've used... I haven't this one out in the wild very often. A lesser known and short lived Borland product.
