I love the idea of reorganizing our machines into small, sometimes overlapping networks that map directly to the trust between people. I think it's fundamentally the model people (and companies!) want for their technology.

Dealing with identity and connectivity at the network layer also *drastically* reduces the difficulty of just making stuff. You no longer need a PhD in web security to make a dinky little app that only you and your friend will ever see or use.

This is the kind of decentralization that I want in my tech. Cryptocurrencies and things like Mastodon never quite hit the spot for me, because they're building from an assumption that segmentation is a layer 7/8/9 concern (e.g. federation).

Tackling the issues of identity, connectivity and security at those high layers means it's all bespoke. Unless the entire planet adopts
$thing, it won't fundamentally change how we relate to our computers. I don't want 20 bespoke things and a long tail of broken legacy stuff.Prikaži ovu nit -
Plus, requiring all these things to be bespoke makes it really hard to write new things, which means only the Googles of this world get to try, because it just takes a lot of resources to make anything on the internet and not immediately get pwned.

On the other hand, by tackling these issues at layer 3/4, I think we have a real shot at bringing everything forward with us. Legacy software doesn't need to adopt some new identity protocol - if it can speak TCP, it can be in the new world, and have the nice things.

Even better, it means that I can write *new* things that just need to speak TCP, and I don't need to spend years of my life re-solving the same problems of connectivity, identity and security for every new thing I make. I can just *have* the nice things. Isn't that nice?

If you can't tell yet, I'm incredibly excited about these ideas, this tech, and the potential this has to make my computer life easier again. I look forward to getting my 90s LAN back (albeit infused with modern security), and the cool things that'll let me do.

So, expect my twitter to start rambling/ranting about OS network stacks, NATs, VPNs, security, identity, and so on and so forth. It's going to be a wild ride. Off we go!

does this mean the company is 50% Daves?
-
I don't have insight into the full team roster, but it's quite Dave-heavy. I'm proposing everyone else rename themselves Dave as well, to reduce confusion.
