IPv6 will fix this, if operators won't firewall their customers.

IPv6 has been going to fix this for over a decade now. I continue to hope, but not optimistic about the next, say, 5 years or so.

I mean, it's security. Exposing even a non-listening network surface is *still an attack vector*. Start throwing in any type of listening service, and stuff gets worse. If you'll excuse me I'll be fuzzing some 802.11 frames over here in the corner.

And the net result is I have to shovel my data through third parties, and table stakes for doing anything is "sharecrop in the cloud". I understand how we got here, doesn't mean I have to like it :(

Scp the files across apipa addresses with adhoc wifi or across the private addresses on the same LAN. What are y'all on about
