Making a million dollars a year to organize a single game played by unsalaried 18-25 year old players is the most Baby Boomer shit of all time

A news paper down here ran a story a few years back showing what each bowl committee chairman makes and how all the bowls are 501c3 “ charitable “ organizations. It’s a scam and a joke
-
501C specifically applies to amateur sports organizations, which the NCAA technically is. It’s not just charities.
-
501C groups are nonprofit organizations of all stripes. From charitable groups to pension funds, to credit unions to medical groups and more. 501c3 is the most well known is for charitable groups
-
True but The committee of every major bowl game has no business being one when all they do is wine and dine AD’s
-
The non profit label refers to shareholders - not employees. Most people don’t realize this. It has no correlation with “doing good for the world” - from the perspective of the IRS.
-
No, thats not correct - you have to have a charitable or educational purpose
-
Or promote "amateur sports competition" which I assume is the loophole they drive on through

Things aren't going to change unless fans tune out and players organize. The execs are laughing all the way to the bank.
-
We saw a little of that player organization this season, with key players, who expect to be drafted high in the NFL draft, sitting out in several bowl games.

Great idea - 16 team playoff. Play the games at the classic college stadiums in a packed house full of dedicated fans. Most of these bowl games are played in half-empty stadiums. Oh yea, pay the players.
-
They make their big $$$ off media and commercials, not ticket sales. That's where there needs to be some oversight
-
I wouldn't cry if they disappeared entirely. Players have grown wise to the nonsense. They are increasingly sitting these games out to avoid getting hurt and wrecking their position in the NFL draft. My guess - this number will increase dramatically going forward.
-
no doubt. no need to get hurt playing in the grandma's wicker basket bowl. got to increase the playoff field...
