2) They help crawlers/SEs with URL/content discovery.
3) They pass value (PageRank/Topicality etc.)
4) Because of (3), they help rank

#VCBuzz A2.3 The same way that different types of links benefit users different ways, the same seems to be for Search Engines. The way you link between related pages not only influences the journey for users, but helps bots identify relations between pages, prominence etc.
