  1. This work is crucial for helping the police and crown prosecution service to successfully prosecute criminals, whilst balancing the rights and civil liberties of innocent citizens. I hope the Government will support my Bill.

  2. And as we learnt in our inquiry, every single expert and regulator wants the Government to do a proper biometrics strategy to set the right laws for using people’s biometric data with technology that’s properly regulated (facial recognition being an example).

  3. I’ve picked up an issue that we worked on on in the last Parliament. The Government has said it wants to fix police forensics with a statutory regulator, given the long running issues in failing the gather evidence to successfully prosecuted suspected criminals.

  4. There have been so many ideas for my PMB - thank you for sending them in. PMBs have to be short and simple because of time. MPs can either: (i) pick a campaign and shout at the Government but not get it passed, or (ii) try and find something that might get Government support.

  5. Relatively simply by standards, this is the start of my Private Members Bill, which has first reading this afternoon. First reading formally introduces the Bill and agrees the date for second reading, when the first debate of the Bill happens.

Important contribution from SERA Executive Committee member on how Labour can show climate leadership even in the face of a strong Tory majority. As she points out "too much is at stake for us not to try."

  10. Trumps Britain edges one step closer. A power play moving the lobby briefings from Parliament to No9. Attacking the independence of the BBC. And now trying to ban newspapers No10 doesn't like. This isn't the British way.

  15. Why is the Government playing politics with climate change? COP26 is only a few months away and it’s the one chance for Britain to shows its climate diplomacy leadership in action. Not a great start.

  16. Disappointed that Brexit is happening but the values that underpinned remain - internationalism, solidarity and the fight for a peaceful, just and sustainable world - continue. Thank you MEPs and staff for 40 years of leadership.

  19. Important event from this afternoon on the need for policy to put the consumer home at the heart of the net zero debate. How do we make the net zero transition a positive experience instead of one just associated with cost and sanctions on lifestyle choices.

  20. Regional party staff gave up free time to help me increase my share of the vote when we were predicted to lose to the Tories. Years of experience in elections helped us refine our targeting, strategy and use of volunteers. It’s that which wins elections and always has been.
